4WansView Wiress / IP camera
By Ron Cook
Originally these were purchased so I could monitor the gas and water meters in the basement without a risk of my cats getting down there. The manufacturer states these units are Mac and Windows-compatible. True enough for viewing the stream sent by the camera. Each camera is supplied with a CD that contains utility software and video monitoring software - for Windows. At present you will have to change the camera's DHCP settings, user ID, password, etc., through the Windows utility. You'll also need the Windows utility to locate the camera on your network, though some enterprising coder may be able to find an alternate method. The hardware (MAC) address is _not_ printed anywhere on the device which pretty well negates the use of ARP and RARP.My two cameras were each supplied with a static IP address of 192.168.0.178 at port 80.Although my network is based on 172.16.x.x, the utility found the cameras, probably via mDNS or Bonjour.A Wireshark capture (on Windows) reported 224.0.0.251 MDNS as a destination address that returned the camera's factory-set static IP address and its MAC address.Through the Windows utility you can set the camera to use DHCP addressing or to set your own static address and port. The Windows software will allow several cameras; it defaults to four.Reading the video stream on Mac or Linux requires a web browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari), and also provides some extra configuration options. One configuration option is to send alarm conditions, such as detected motion, to an email address. One caveat: I could not get the unit to connect to my .mac email address. It works perfectly with Gmail as the SMPT server. The video quality at 640 x 480 is more than adequate for my original purpose and for any other monitoring I may choose to do.Overall, these seem to be good cameras; they're not fancy or loaded with features. They do provide a good, basic image with motion detection as an option.

1Junk!
By John (HCPD)
Unpacked the item and mounted it per the instructions exactly. I went through set up port forwarding QOS settings and everything was working fined till after the first rain. After the first minor temperature change, the lens not only leaked, but got condensation and brown gook inside of it. Image below is after being only 2 weeks of. Beware where you purchase it from do not go directly to the manufacturer. I called them and they said the seller is unsupported and hung up, I called Amazon and as usual they helped me out.Pros: worked for 2 weeks straight, setup was not too bad, software was averageCons: leaks, company not willing to help unless you buy through them, greens very washed out. I.e grass looks like snow.
