Excellent DIY Security System

It cost be an arm and a leg to get the Broadband module, the X-10 Module, the Crossover Bridge on the electrical box to pass the X-10 signals through, and bring a Cell Phone Booster Antenna into the house for GSM. After everything is said and done, the X10 is still somewhat unreliable but the security component seems rock solid. My setup includes outdoor wireless motion towers, motion detectors, and tons of open/close trips and so far so good. The box chirps if we have power, broadband, or telephony issues. I get emails when people come and go. We get web access, logging, proximity tags for housekeepers and the gardener to come and go to certain parts of the house. And so far it all just plain works.I wish the system allowed multiple X10 house codes to make it more robust (think ActiveHome crossed with Visonic) .PS The chime with zone announce is amazing. We have a big house and knowing when someone opens a door, window, or walks through a perimeter zone is like having a security staff 24/7.

Visionic System

I have yet to purchase this system. The reason for a middle review.The Smarthome SecureLinc 2 home security system appears to be Visionic's Powermax Pro system.Smarthome is an online reseller of alarm systems. I wish they would stick with the true name of the manufacturer.X10 is the older communication standard to control power to lights, etc.ZWAVE is a newer communication protocol used to control lights, thermostat, door locks, etc.There is a GSM module for cellular phone communication from the main control unit to cell phones.Internet connection is required for more advanced features such as camera survalence.I found the number of allowed sensors 25 to be limiting but it would probably suffice for the first floor doors/windows in my home.A monitor company may or may not be used with this system.There are a couple iphone aps in Apple's App Store to control it. However, one with camera views requires a service with a third party.One app automates the sending of sms messages to control it - something that could be done manually.I like the way this system is more do it yourself that others that demand a monitor service to get the advanced features.
