SM-80 is an add-on wireless PIR motion sensor for SecurityMan Air-Alarm system. Its wireless transmitting distance is up to 450ft (in open area). It includes a 9V alkaline battery which could last up to 2 years. Motion detection range is 100° 10x10m.

Effective Sensor

The PIR sensor works very well. It scans every five seconds reacts very quickly. I ordered extra sensors to compliment the Air Alarm kit I ordered. The adjustability of the mounting makes it easy to aim once a mounting location is chosen.Of the three sensors, there is one that appears to have one undesirable trait. I'm unsure if it is unique to that sensor or if it is because it is in a high traffic location or bad luck with 9V batteries. The PIR scans every five seconds according the manual and when it detects movement, it glows red. The sensor in question has used three 9V batteries since it was mounted. The original battery did not last very long and I assumed it was because it was a no name battery included with the unit. The second lasted 3 months and it did not glow "white" when the battery is low according to the manual. The red LED simply would was not as bright as normal (it was a 9V that I had, but tested "good" with the battery tester before installed- so it could have been just bad luck with two batteries). It is on it's third battery in six months. That is the only issue that has come up since the installation and so far just with one of the three PIR sensors. The Air Alarm and sensors are not even one year old yet, but the PIR does work as stated.

Poor quality control

I have purchased 4 of these motion detectors and only 2 of them work. The co. promises replacement at this writing but we will see. Had many calls placed to tech support without getting any one to answer the phone, when I did reach them I had a tech I had a hard time understanding. I will re-evaluate this review at a later date.Update:They have responded after going through all the rma mailings and phone calls. I finally received my new detectors so I have to give them an extra 2 stars. I have put one of them in service and appears to be working alright. will wait a while before activating the other to make sure This one doesn't issue any false alarms

Purchased these with the Macally airalarmII wireless smart home alarm system kit with doorbell. Main unit was cheaply made and I returned this product with the unit.
