It works if you can figure it out

1. I bought it to use with the Honeywell 5853 Wireless Glass Break Detector.It works, but programming it is a major PIA.2. Although Honeywell does not provide the full Installation Manual (and won't even talk to you if you are not an Installer) I found the full Installation Manual at: library.ademconet.com/MWT/fs2/9/758.pdfor do a Google search for: honeywell lynx "800-03857V1"3. The Lynx L3000 comes with the power transformer. You provide the wire. Note that the transformer says it has a built-in fuse. It doesn't say if it is a self-resetting fuse. The transformer is sealed, so if it is a standard fuse then even a momentary short will ruin it forever. Therefore, unplug the transformer before you do anything that might short it out (like connecting the wires).4. If the L3000 gets lost and you need to do a hardware reset, you have to unplug the backup battery as well as the power transformer.5. The 5853 wireless sensor really does have to be at least 5 feet away from the unit. If it is closer than that, you won't be able to program the L3000 properly and the L3000 will get spontaneous false alarms from the 5853.6. I wish someone would do a 5000 series compatible pod with USB interface so all of the programming can be done on an old dedicated notebook PC. Ademco doesn't know how to do a decent embedded system.7. Honeywell now makes the FG-1625 Glassbreak Detector. You can test that the microphone is working by clapping your hands. It looks like they copied it from GE's sensor.8. Oh, and I wish I could turn the siren down. I don't need it to be as loud as a jet engine at 15 feet.

Nice product!! The alarms are really going away from the old school wiring method... It took me about 10 min to program it all and about 20 more min to hang all the equipment. We use these at work now...programming is easy and painless... nice door chime with voice prompts.

Misleading

Be very careful that you are not mislead as I was about compatibility with Honeywell's Total Connect software. This software claims to allow full control of your alarm through both an Internet and Iphone app. Once you sign the contract and install the software you will find that basically all that works is a basic remote keypad. ALL of the other features that Honeywell demo's in their videos and brochures do not work. I repeat ALL of the other features do not work. Do not expect to configure devices, event notification, x-10 devices. Of course Honeywell Ademco will not talk to you because they only talk to alarm dealers. You will find this out after hours of trying to make it work and then an apology from a salesman.
